Tribute to Late Ozo, Chief Ngozika Jonathan Okpagu (Omeluora na Nise)
There are men who live only for themselves, and there are those whose lives become a blessing to everyone they encounter. Late Ozo, Chief Ngozika Jonathan Okpagu, fondly known as Omeluora na Nise—the benevolent man who gives to all—belonged to the latter.
His title, Omeluora, was not merely a name; it was the story of his life. He was a man whose doors were open, whose hands were generous, and whose heart embraced everyone without discrimination. To the young, he was a mentor. To his peers, he was a trusted friend. To the elderly, he was respectful and dependable. To the needy, he was a source of hope and relief.
Chief Okpagu understood that true greatness is measured not by wealth or status, but by the lives one touches. His kindness was quiet but profound, his generosity sincere, and his love for humanity unwavering. He gave not because he had abundance, but because he believed that lifting others was one of life's greatest callings.
As an Ozo title holder, he carried himself with dignity, wisdom, and integrity. He upheld the cherished values and traditions of Nise with honour, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him. His legacy is woven into the hearts of countless people whose lives he enriched through his compassion, counsel, and selfless service.
Though his earthly journey has come to an end at the age of 78, the seeds of goodness he planted will continue to flourish for generations. His memory will remain alive in every act of kindness inspired by his example, every grateful heart he touched, and every life made better because he chose to give rather than to withhold.
To his beloved family, may you find comfort in knowing that he lived a life of purpose and left behind a name that commands honour. The pain of his departure is great, but so too is the pride of having shared life with such an exceptional man.
Farewell, Ozo, Chief Ngozika Jonathan Okpagu.
